Hope everyone had a nice Valentine's Day.
It's been just lovely here.......
A week ago Saturday, an electrical power line decided to snap in my back yard (garden) and fall on my chain link fence. The fence was lit up like a Christmas tree, with all the colors. The entire fence was fried. The electric current followed the ground wires all the way to our house and fried the circuit panel inside. Thank goodness it stopped there. The good thing was, I had just gotten our dog INSIDE about 3 minutes BEFORE the power line snapped. If she was outside, she would have been killed. We had to call the fire department. They came, along with the police. We ended up not having power for 4 days. The power company came and put the power back on for everyone else, but couldn't to us because we had no panel or wires to accept the power. Fortunately, we have a generator, so we hooked that up. It was very loud. We had extension cords all over the house, but no heat. I was trying to keep my food safe, so both fridges were on. Also, I had TV. The electricians came Monday and began working, and then on Tuesday, the power company came to dig a new trench in our yard as to lay the new wires down. In doing this digging, they cut our cable TV wire and our phone lines, which lost our DSL to the internet. I did manage to get the phone company out to reconnect the phone lines, but somehow, the DSL line got messed up. I got the cable back up on Wednesday, but the line is not buried yet because they don't have the same digging equipment as the power company has. The power went back on on Tuesday. But, no DSL. (We are hacked into our neighbors wifi) I have been talking to the internet people and we can't get it fixed for whatever reason. We are switching to something else on March 21, but we can't be without internet that long. This is nuts. I have pics of the power outage and what it did to the fence. What our yard looks like. (It looks like we are testing missiles....lol) I will get them posted as soon as I can.
We DID find out the day we got power that we could have stayed in a hotel when we didn't have heat. It was too late by then. Where was I going to put my dog? Most hotels don't take dogs. And, that the insurance pays for all of our meals. Well, we used our grill outdoors to cook, and I DO have a gas stove, so I cooked there, the "old fashioned" way without a microwave.
The bill, so far, is $8K, and going up. We still have to get a new fence, new sidewalk, and landscaping from where they dug up the yard. (of course, the best lawn we had in the yard was where they dug) Probably new bushes, too. (they killed one while digging for the wires) It has been an absolute nightmare. This is the last thing I would have ever expected. The power company people have been here 3 times trying to figure out what happened. No one has any ideas. Just as long as I don't have to pay anything, I am ok with whatever they do. I JUST WANT MY INTERNET BACK!!! And, who knows how long THIS is going to take..........
So Reaver, pass me that Jack Daniel's, without the Coke and we'll drink together! I need a hug.........
